What is Workspace in Balance?

In these pages you won’t find sections on ‘turnkey solutions’ or ‘cutting edge desk ergonomics’. We won’t use phrases like ‘tomorrow’s solutions today’ or ‘go-ahead attitude’. In fact, you won’t find anything in here that doesn’t treat you like an adult or make total sense. Workspace in Balance is all about making sense. It’s about finding the right balance between working space and personal space. It’s about talking to people to find out what they want. Not just the MD or CEO, but the managers, PA’s, the individuals who make the tea. After all, these are the people using the spaces we create and if we don’t get it right for them, in the long run, it won’t be right for anybody. This is common sense really, but you’d be surprised how many companies get it completely wrong.
We get it right by listening and sometimes by telling too. For instance, you may think,

that having spent your hard earned money on shiny new offices, you’d want everyone to say “wow” every time they walk through the door. New visitors? Yes. Your people? No. Of course you want to impress, and you will, but what you don’t want is your people spending their day marvelling at a 50 foot sculpture in reception or playing with their 63 position chair. You see, when we create a balanced workspace, it should become almost invisible to the people who use it, so seamless, it naturally becomes part of their day. It doesn’t mean dull, it just means right. People and space working in total harmony. Design and practicality as one. Neither, hindering nor affecting the other’s usefulness. Or to put it another way, Workspace in Balance.
