Known for producing lead munitions during the Napoleonic war, Calder Industrial Materials has been a feature of the Chester skyline for over 230 years. The famous “shot tower”, still the tallest structure in Chester, is now a listed building and is all that remains of the original leadworks site. The relocation was prompted by the need for more modern factory facilities with better transport access. Following location of a suitable site, The Giotto Group undertook the relocation of both heavy industrial plant and other business equipment and the co-ordination and installation of the fit out of the unit. As well as developing the plant layout to fit within the predetermined size and shape of the new premises, The Giotto Group produced the specifications for the extensive plant services for the new production areas and then looked after their design and installation including connections from the various utilities. Calder’s equipment included some very heavy and complex machinery which required great care and skill when dismantling, transferring, assembling and re-commissioning, all of which was carried out with minimal disruption. The nature of the production processes also meant that Giotto needed to comply with Environmental Control legislation for Calder’s to gain an operating licence under IPPC regulations. |
